Smith Brothers named as one of the region’s top SMEs
We’re delighted to have been listed as one of The Yorkshire Post’s Top 100 SMEs for 2018! Appearing in a special supplement alongside the business section, the rankings place Smith Brothers at 76th in the region for profitability.
As just one of three Elland-based businesses on the table, we’re thrilled to have been recognised alongside some brilliant companies from across Yorkshire. Others on the list hail from an array of different industries – from manufacturing and textiles to vehicle repairs and web design.
With figures compiled by BHP Chartered Accountants, using the latest filed information from Companies House, the report shows a promising outlook for the region. The main story is headlined “An SME sector to be proud of” – and we are certainly honoured to be a part of it!
Business editor Mark Casci outlines the impressive figures from the region, drawing attention to the 14% increase in overall turnover and 32% leap in pre-tax profits. He additionally labels the services sector we operate in a “powerhouse”, thanks to its £37m increase in profits, whilst Lisa Leighton – partner at BHP – identifies a rise of 488 employees within this field alone.
Commenting on the importance of SMEs to the UK economy, Mark writes: “… the real story of Britain’s future economic potential is showcased in this supplement as companies continue to innovate, grow and create jobs.”
Having boosted our own workforce by 50% over the period analysed in this report, our employee numbers now stand at 65 – and we’re always on the lookout for more talented engineers, project managers, cable jointers and fitters to join our ranks!
Mark’s closing message to the 100 firms listed is to “keep up the good work!” – and we’re definitely planning to do just that.
