Smith Brothers is staying COVID-19 secure

The Smith Brothers HQ in Yorkshire has reopened its doors today and, as we begin to open our sites and offices once more, we understand there will inevitably be lots of questions around how life with Smith Brothers Contracting might look in the short and long term.

Workplace safety has always been our top priority. Yet, it has taken on a completely new meaning since the advent of the Coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, we’re doing everything we can to safeguard colleagues and customers as we take these next, tentative, steps.

Our SHEQ manager, Darrell Johnson, has been keeping a close eye on all Government advice and guidelines, to help establish a number of policies and procedures which will help us all return to work. This includes guidance on what to can expect, as well as what protocols may be changing to adapt to COVID-19.

We confirm that Smith Brothers Contracting Ltd has complied with the Government’s guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19. As such, some of the key changes to note which will be in force from June 1 include:

1. Risk assessment – We’ve carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment, and copies can be found on main notice boards, in reception or by asking Darrell Johnson.

2. Heightened hygiene – We have implemented new cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures in line with Government guidance. There will be posters in all toilets, sanitiser stations throughout the office and cleaning check-sheets in every area.

3. Working from home – For those who are not yet returning to the office, we will continue to take all reasonable steps to help people work remotely.

4. Social distancing – We have taken all reasonable steps to maintain a 2m distance in the workplace – both in terms of desk space and social areas. There are also several awareness posters throughout the office, as well as obvious floor markings.

5. Personal protection equipment – Where people cannot be 2m apart, we have done everything practical to manage transmission risk. There is now a Perspex screen at reception, while some desks have been ‘closed’ or moved.
